In the mountains of southern Haiti there is a small clinic reaching out to the medical needs of the mountain people. In this clinic they have stitch machette wounds, splint broken legs, give medication for scabies, treat for malnutrition and deliver babies. The nearest hospital is 20 miles away. & can take up to 2 hours to travel. When they arrive no one is there to care for the patient or the Dr has decided to go home. In the midst of all this babies are being born at the missions clinic midst sick patients. This clinic has been going for at least 25 years and has long seen a need for a birth center. Plans are in process to build a clinic specifically to educate women on pregnancy, diets and caring for babies. This birth center will also have a lab and upstairs apartment to house staff. The need for an education and birthing center is huge, and would greatly improve the wellbeing of the babies as well as empowering women during their pregnancy.
