Ijaw Women of America Inc. (IWA) was formed in 2016 with one goal to unite all Ijaws in America. Our purpose is to educate the world about our presence in the U.S., to support each other and showcase our uniqueness by sharing our heritage, history, arts and culture with our universe. The Ijaw peoples of West Africa are found on the western coasts of Africa where the Atlantic meets land. In Nigeria the Ijaws are found in Ondo, Edo, Delta Bayelsa, Rivers & Akwa-Ibom States.
Since the discovery of Crude Oil in Nigeria in Oloibiri in 1957 there has been vast oil spillages yet not one oil spillage clean up. All Ijaw water ways are polluted and there is no portable drinking water for the Ijaw communities in the area.
The goal of IWA is to build water wells in all 51 Ijaw clans of Ijaw land. So far IWA has planted 9 water wells in 9 clans. We have 42 more to go. Please help us build 2 water wells in 2022 for IWA and help make a difference in Ijaw land.
