The global pandemic has hit Bethlehem hard... due to travel restrictions very few pilgrims were able to visit the Holy Land in 2021. Families in Bethlehem are very much dependent on income from tourism (hotels, restaurants, guides, etc.) and 2021 was a difficult year for many families to make ends meet. Local authorities do not sponsor church-based schools. People are unable to pay school fees and churches struggle to supplement needs of schools. ICoHS wants to provide psycho-social support for students, educational resources and teacher trainings in order to support the community with healthy educational options for children of all faiths.
