Przystanek "Świetlica" (The common room) is a space and at the same time an educational and integrational program for children of migrants waiting to be granted a refugee status in Poland, as well as support for their adult guardians.
“The common room” is located in the center for foreigners " Dębak" with 300 places. The center currently hosts mainly people from Chechnya, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus and Afghanistan. They have been traumatized by migration, persecution, and violence. They live in a former military unit surrounded by a forest, away from buildings and social infrastructure. The nearest suburban railway station is 3 km away, it can be reached through the forest or along the local road. Children go to school without knowing the language. Some have serious problems with adaptation, learning and emotions. They are uncertain even for the near future, which may change with the administrative decision to deport or leave the center. Thanks to many years of work with families applying for refugee status, the Foundation has created and developed its own methods and tools for integration, pedagogical, educational and cultural work, as well as individual support in the daily life of migrant families.
