Since 2014, the drinking water entering Newark homes has been contaminated by lead from old piping infrastructure. While a lot of these pipes have been replaced, many pockets within the city still experience lead and bacteria levels above the recommended water quality standard. MissionCleanWater believes in community action, and our purpose is to develop clean water solutions in collaboration with community members. This project aims to provide clean water to The Institute of Intriguing Minds, a 200 person daycare, and the Central Ward community. We will create a portable water filter system called The Water Box that can be attached to any water tap – providing clean water directly to community members. We currently have 4 operational Water Boxes in Newark, providing about 50,000 gallons of clean water per week. We anticipate that this new Water Box will provide 10,000 gallons of clean water to the community each week.
