Muda Africa, a non-profit organization, is raising money to complete the very first community dance center of Dar es Salaam city in Tanzania.
Muda started as a school for dance in 2013 and 95% of its Alumni generate income from dance activities. The Alumni have performed in over 10 countries in 3 continents. Two have won the prestigious Prince Claus Seed Award, which only 100 dancers around the world receive.
Muda sits at the 'Kona' (corner in Swahili) of the poorest community of Dar es Salaam and is providing much needed access to arts and culture. Muda uses dance to drive social change through performances addressing issues such as gender-based violence, substance abuse amongst youth, and deforestation.
To complete the dance center, Muda needs a sprung wooden floor, windows and doors for the indoor studios, toilets and showers, a rainwater collection system and a garden.
With a finished center, Muda will become a self-reliant, accessible space for art and culture.
