In 2019 Joe Whelan traveled to South Africa to serve with Build the Future. He played with the children, finding that smiles and swing sets aren't limited by language barriers. He helped build a support structure for a new water tank to bring fresh water to the rural preschool. He gardened, cleaned, and even befriended two giraffes. Joe was blessed with a good education, from preschool to college. He was an inquisitive student of the world and outside of school read book after book to satisfy his curiosity. In his honor, we would like to provide educational opportunities for the children of South Africa. Build the Future is an amazing organization that has built one school in Johannesburg and three in the rural mountains around Durban. They know the importance of early education and nutritious meals for young minds. Their dream is to relieve the poverty of South Africa through the education of its youngest children. This fund will build the fourth preschool in the beautiful mountains.
