RODS Heroes is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to inspiring families to adopt children with special abilities or other unique circumstances. The RODS Heroes team met 103 children eligible for adoption in Colombia, who live in institutions but dream of having a family. In Colombia, children age out at 16 and are no longer eligible for adoption. Last year nearly 2/3 of the 4,251 children eligible for adoption were between 12-15 years old. Only 0.001% of 12-15 year-olds are adopted. Of the thousands of children who age out every year, 60% end up in the sex industry, 20% are instantly homeless, and 70% of girls become pregnant before age 21. Colombia is allowing RODS Heroes to host children close to aging out with families here in the U.S. We currently have 8 families in Utah eager to host. This summer, 10 children will spend 2 weeks in a family. This opportunity allows children to hope, heal, belong, and 90% of the time... find their forever family.
