The conflict involves the Meitei people, residing in the Imphal Valley, and the tribal communities from the surrounding hills, including the Kuki and Zo peoples (Hindi vs Christians). Tragically, the violence has resulted in over 70 fatalities and hundreds of wounded. More than 221 churches, 4,000 homes, and 112 villages have been destroyed. As of June 12, the conflict is ongoing, leading to the displacement of over 30,000 people. The government has deployed troops with orders to use force if necessary, and have shut down internet services, banks, and imposition of lockdown measures. While these measures are temporary, many people remain displaced and urgently require food, shelter, clothing, and support for future recovery. photo: www.aljazeera.com/news
