In Latin America, the rural population amounts to about 121 million people, who represent approximately 20% of the total population. Of these, 48% are women, a total of 59 million. Although they represent 20% of the agricultural workforce in Latin America and the Caribbean, women face a number of inequities that affect their economic development.

In 2022, Ajal Comunidad is focusing on women and investing in activities that will significantly increase their productivity, reduce hunger, and more importantly, improve their self-esteem.

They have created a support program for a group of low-income mothers living in Puerto Maya (Madres de Ajal). A small group of women have learned, over the last weeks, the skills to be a hairdresser and a estetician with the help of a hairstylist.

AJAL COMUNIDAD is a non profit organization dedicated to generating opportunities and strengthening the development and potential of vulnerable children, women and families in the town of Puerto Maya.

Here's one of the group of woman that succeeded in the program.
