Healing Hands fundraiser for Africompassion raised $30,414 towards drilling a well and building a school in Tanzania. The original project budget, based on a single quote from a well drilling contractor was $8,500 for drilling a well and installing water tanks, and the balance applied to school construction. Our first and highest priority was to provide clean drinking water for the villagers and the school.

Extensive research was done on finding contractors to drill the well and install a water tank system. After working with four different contractors, a contractor was selected. An initial survey concluded that water could be obtained at 80 m/262 ft. A deeper well was required for reliable water year round. A strong source of water was found at 140 m/430 ft. Our project included drilling the well, a 15-foot-tall water tower with two 5,000-liter (2,650 gallons) water tanks, a concrete block well house and four spigot water station.

This was their main water source. It is shared by animals and severly diminishes during the dry seasons.
