The majority of children served by Flying Kites do not bring food to school, and prior to joining their Network, schools lacked the capacity to introduce affordable, sustainable School Meals Programs. Without access to food during the school day, students were struggling to concentrate, falling behind, and in many cases, were forced to leave school in search of work.

In response, Flying Kites launched partner-driven School Meals Programs across 6 primary schools to address the most significant barrier to learning – hunger.

Support from the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation provided ingredients to prepare and serve a daily meal of fortified porridge (uji) for the 931 students at Mucibau Primary School every day of the 2022 School Year.

Since the launch of this program, Flying Kites has recorded increased enrollment, high rates of attendance (96% in the 2022 School Year), and feedback from parents indicating School Meals as the most impactful program for families across our Network.
