Kids get vitamins to grow up healthy

In 2022 Viktor Vitamientje Foundation (VV) subscribed 35 poor families in the Dutch City of Rotterdam to their fruits & vegetables program. These families are weekly provided with vegetables and fruits for at least 1 year thanks to the Healing Hands Match Program. More than 70 children received the necessary vitamins to grow up physically and mentally healthy.

IMPACT:

The parents tell us that the program has improved the health of all family members. They are less tired and more resistant to a cold or the flu. The project also nudges the families to switch to a healthy eating pattern. They try `new' sorts of vegetables and healthy recipes and give their children healthy snacks. Children learn to eat and enjoy a wider variety of fruits and vegetables. Having more financial room for healthy food reduced stress in the families.

Testimony of a family: Chantal, mother of 4 year old Judith is in serious financial need because of debts. This means she is on a very small budget.

Judith often goes shopping with her mother. Thanks to the F&V program she has developed her taste, she even likes more vegetables than Chantal!

Judith is also more interested in healthy food. For example, the neighbor recently had corona and she suggested to make her a fruit basket.

And while cooking together: “Look mom, a leek looks the same inside as an onion with all those rings!” The Fruits & Vegetables project really made her world bigger.

Advocate for this project:

Chantal, mother of a 4 year old daughter
“ We have only €45 a week to live on. It is such a relief to know that I can feed my daughter fruits and vegetables.”
