Haiti has the worst maternal and infant statistics in the western hemisphere, This year in particular has been very difficult. Kidnappings and gang violence are rampant, over 70% of the country is experiencing food insecurity, as well as a raging cholera epidemic. It is a hard place to be a pregnant woman. For the past nine months we have been building a rural birth center in the village of Fombrun, in the Central Plateau. This beautiful compound will have a solar power system, a community well, and 6 beehives, both for medicinal honey and as an income generating project for the village. This system pregnant and postpartum mothers to use flush toilets and indoor showers, a luxury where pit toilets and bucket baths are the norm. Thank you for helping us provide a dignified and hygienic system for our pregnant mothers. Clean water is a human right, and our women deserve it!
