This project was set up to raise funds to help cochlear implant recipients with the ongoing costs of their external hearing equipment. Without working equipment, cochlear implant recipients are back to being deaf 100% of the time. With the working equipment, they can participate and thrive in the daily life of the hearing world. Many insurances do not help with these ongoing costs. Basic components, such as a rechargeable battery can cost several hundred dollars. A full upgrade of the external device costs over $12,000, making it out of reach for many people. Yet without this critical technology, they will not be able to go to school, their employment could be at risk, and their safety can be compromised.
