The Dagbreek centre is a safe haven for children and young adults with a delay in development. These children can not function in the normal school system. The centre focuses on each individual and supports them in their own unique ways, giving them the structure they need on a physical (including medical), educational, social and emotional level.

The centre carries its own financial load, depends on gifts and contribution from the parents. They do not receive any subsidies from the government. Due to economic situation following COVID19, the centre’s income has dramatically dropped and the impact is huge.

‘Dagbreek’ meets an important need for parents and their children.

These children need this safe place where they can develop to their full potential. The aim is to expand and help more children in need.

Dagbreek is situated on a small holding East of Pretoria, South Africa. Our special needs learners enjoy developmental activities in the sun. Horse riding is a favorite.

Djembe drumming plays an important role and learners' cognitive skills develop with rhythm.

Line dancing is a challenging activity where the learners must work in a group with loads of sensory input through motion, sound and often laughter.

Hands-on learning makes mathematical fractions fun (...and yes, the dog ate my homework!)

At age 9, our child could not hold a pen properly, and a year later this masterpiece came from his pen. - proud parents.

Advocate for this project:

Estelle Bekker - founder of Dagbreek
From the Bible: 'let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn'. The certainty of 'Dagbreek' (Afrikaans for dawn) is the certainty that Christ has risen and that He is our light.
