In a country famous for its tea export, Sri Lankan woman are often trapped in the strenuous labor of tea plucking. Overworked and underpaid, they live in poverty with little opportunity to break free from the plantation system. This project supports Eliya Association's apprenticeship program to empower tea pluckers. Local women learn skills in organic farming, earn a work certificate, and gain the confidence to pursue new means of employment. As these woman evolve beyond the terribly oppressive system of tea plantations, they start to earn more income, educate their children, and build a better life for themselves!
