Last year, we raised funds to build a kitchen for a group of women in Malawi, Africa. We also provided education for these women to develop culinary and business skills. These women have taken what we have helped provide and turned it into a successful restaurant business. As we continue to empower these women with a focus on sustainability, we recognize that they are currently traveling by foot to the local market and mill, carrying heavy loads to purchase produce and maize for their business. This year, our goal is to provide a garden and a mill. By adding a garden and mill, the women will be able to spend more time on income producing activities and will be able to provide even more jobs for the locals. We plan to continue to educate them by developing composting skills, farming and gardening skills and further develop their business plan. As the African proverb says, “If you educate a man, you educate and individual but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.” This project supports women by teaching them:
• Business Education
• Composting Education
• Culinary Skills
• Garden and Farming Skills.
Additionally, this project promotes sustainability in the following ways:
• Providing a garden will allow them to be even more profitable in their business
• Providing a mill will allow them to spend more time on income producing activities
• Both the garden and mill will provide more employment opportunities.
