Sheldon Wardwell was a man known by many for his willingness to work alongside people in the most dire circumstances around the world. In addition to working as a UN Peacekeeper in South Sudan, helping to rebuild Pakistan following a devastating earthquake, working in Rwanda following regional conflict, among other critically important service over the years, Sheldon dedicated the last several years of his life to bringing life-saving healthcare to hundreds of thousands of people in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers we invite all of Sheldon’s loved ones to donate towards the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation via this page with 100% of all proceeds benefitting the Sanaag Specialty Hospital.

Under Sheldon’s guidance and hard work on the ground for multiple months over several years, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation and other partners worked closely with the local community to fund and construct the Sanaag Specialty Hospital, a non-profit regional hospital located in the city of Erigavo—located in the heart of Somaliland’s Frankincense and Myrrh harvesting region.

The Sanaag Specialty Hospital is the first functioning health care provider of its kind and is now able to provide critical healthcare services in a region with some of the highest rates of maternal and child mortality in the world. Since its official opening on May 25, 2021, the hospital has treated 2,478 outpatients, completed 403 X-rays and 107 ultrasounds, and performed 25 critical surgeries which would have previously required a 12-hour trip to the nearest hospital. The impact of the Hospital to save lives in a region Sheldon grew to love will continue to honor Sheldon’s legacy for decades to come.
