dHHF is teaming up with 10 different schools in rural Kenya to provide tuition scholarships for 12 student scholars from Lunga Lunga to attend secondary school. The cost for a student to attend four years of public secondary school is approximately $2,000.

Through a rigorous application process, students are screened according to family livelihood, grades, and test scores. Preference is given to children whose families farm doTERRA essential oil crops in this region. The first cohort includes six students who meet this condition. The school cycle begins in January and runs through November when students are tested and then proceed to the next level.

Most students live at the boarding schools because secondary schools are few and sparsely located making daily commuting a difficult if not impossible task. On top of tuition expense, students are also required to take certain personal belongings to facilitate their boarding life at school. These items include a metal suitcase, a pair of blankets and bedsheets, two school uniforms, a pair of school shoes, a school badge and other items. These additional expenses are an immense burden for most families, making the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation Scholars Program the key that turns their educational dreams into reality.

If the 2020 pilot program is successful, it will expand to include a larger cohort of scholarship students for the 2021 school year.
