This Giving Tuesday, join us on a mission to bring hope and opportunity to children in Bihar, India, impacted by leprosy. Together with Rising Star Outreach, we’re supporting a school that will provide essential education and community support to over 600 students, giving them the chance to break free from the cycle of poverty and negative perception. Vijyr with his children

Vijyr became a single father to his two children after losing his wife three years ago. The small family lives in an especially impoverished leprosy colony, with no access to medical care or real educational opportunities for the children. Malnourishment is rampant, evident by the orange tinge in Vijyr and his children’s hair, a common sign of severe malnutrition.

Vijyr wishes to provide for his family but is unable to work steadily because he must stay in the colony to care for his children, who have no school to attend. It is the same for most of the 70+ children who live in this colony. Vijyr has put his son and daughter on the enrollment waitlist for the school in Bihar, hoping they will be able to attend to gain a quality education and receive proper nutrition. This would also allow Vijyr to work and better provide for his family.

Since 2001, Rising Star Outreach has been dedicated to empowering individuals and families to rise above the stigma associated with leprosy and to live healthy, productive lives through quality education, medical care, and community development. doTERRA Healing Hands® has previously funded several projects through Rising Star Outreach, including water system improvements, renovation of a wound care room in their medical clinic, and specialized footwear for those suffering from the long-term effects of leprosy.
