Migrant shelters at the US-Mexico border are in need. Hundreds of asylum-seeking families with children/LGBTQAI+ youth have escaped violence in Central America and parts of Mexico and are waiting to be processed by US authorities. They now reside in shelters in the border cities of Tijuana and Mexicali. Others are deported from the US and fearing for their lives, they can’t go back to the country they escaped from. We want to help this vulnerable population by providing support for shelters that are hosting them. This fundraiser aims to provide the specific needs of 4 shelters so their residents are healthy, cared for, and live in sanitary conditions. We at Gente Unida in collaboration with Musical Ambassadors of Peace provide ongoing dance sessions and expressive arts for mental health support. The fundraiser will fund art supplies, hygiene products, medicine, and healthy snacks for migrants/asylum seekers, many of whom are children.
