PRASAD Chikitsa has been providing supplemental nutrition to children and pregnant and nursing mothers across the Tansa Valley for nearly 35 years. Now more then ever due to the effects of COVID-19 the support is needed! Here’s how the program works: • Malnutrition is not always visible; PRASAD screens to identify children who need help • Children up to age 6 and pregnant and nursing women receive milk and supplemental nutritional snacks six days a week and regular check-ups to ensure sustained health • Children are measured against WHO growth standards Our service sites, local Anganwadis - maternal health & play centers/pre-schools, are selected based on need: communities where the malnutrition rate is over 60% and where there is less access to a variety of foods. According to UNICEF, 33% of the world’s malnourished children live in India.  In the rural Tansa Valley, PRASAD service area, 71% of children are malnourished and nursing & pregnant women are deficient.
