Other Ways to Support Self-Reliance
Complete a financial challenge
Sometimes looking at a habit from a different perspective helps you see ways you can improve the use of your resources. Review your phone, internet, cable, and other subscriptions to determine if your plans are the best fit for you and your family. Try packing lunch every day for a month or wait seven days before making any optional purchases in a month. See how these challenges help you change your perspective.
Volunteer
Many community programs work to help people build self-reliance. Volunteer at a local shelter or community center to help people develop needed life skills. You may even be able to find a mentoring opportunity in your area that will help someone back on their feet and on the road to self-sufficiency.
Be prepared
Part of self-reliance includes being prepared for unexpected circumstances. Make sure you have water or food storage in case of an emergency. Assemble 72-hour kits for yourself and your family members. Build your savings account in case of unexpected expenses. A little bit of preparedness goes a long way in helping you be self-reliant.
Complete a match
Are you passionate about self-reliance? Do you know of a non-profit organization that helps individuals pursue self-reliance? Use the Match Program to provide support for that organization and to double your impact.
Share
The first step in creating change is building awareness through sharing information. Sharing self-reliance resources and tips, statistics, graphics, and more takes only a moment, but can go a long way in helping individuals on their path to a better life.
